The tested load was Federal hull and primer, 39 g of Longshot, x10x gas seal, Pt1044 wad, 1.75 oz of Bismuth #1, 30g of Precision Reloading buffer, with a roll crimp. The velocity average turned out to be 1336 fps and the pressure was high at 13178.

G … WebSep 18, 2024 · The issue with bismuth, OR LEAD, has always been that it's soft enough that it can deform on setback and that added deformation causes pattern degradation. There is a reason why lead loads were always kept 1300fps-ish or lower. For this reason, the buffer actually helps in bismuth loads. HOWEVER---- You can't have it both ways.
